Andrea Wicklund. A unique blend of traditional illustration mixed with simple yet complex compositions and thoughtful concepts, Andrea Wicklund caught my attention with the piece you see above- molatic, some what creepy and intriguing at the same time. Andrea puts a pleasing and fresh new spin on the common look of Children's Book and Editorial Illustration. Her technique is attentive to detail and makes her work stand out among most Book Illustrators. Andrea Wicklund is a very promising artist with a long career ahead of her.

-Q & A-

Childhood Influences: My twin brothers. I'm artistic; they're autistic.

Current Influences: I have always been heavily influenced by simplicity. Simplicity that is extracted from a complex concept. Not minimalism, per say, rather naked design...? If done effectively, it is quite powerful. (Ironically, all of my compositions are busy and confusing.) These days I find myself scrutinizing Asian art: the colors, the lines, and of course the design. As far as artists go (deep breath): James Jean, Jenny Saville, Euan Uglow, Gustav Klimpt,Katsushika Hokusai, Ann Gale, Nicolai Fechin, Egon Schiele...you know. All those cats.

Favorite thing that tastes like chicken: Chickless nuggets from Harvest Market. I don't know WHAT the hell they are...but they taste like chicken.

Current Creative Occupations: Freelance illustration with a lil' fine art gallery stuff here and there.

Current Projects: Right now I'm working on some "anti-relationship" paintings. Next is a series of pastel figure studies. My major project will be learning Japanese bookbinding (for myself personally and for creative marketing).

Current and Upcoming Shows or Events:"Mediums" at the Canvas Gallery SF, CA hanging since March 25th. 04'.

Mediums: Acrylic, graphite, and INK INK INK!

Specialize in: I'd like to think so...

Dream Career which makes you hate your current job: Doing travel sketchbook/concept drawings and getting paid for it.

Print Publications: I'm working on that.
