Brad Isdrab. The sculptures of Brad Isdrab are works which scream out mood and darkness. He uses sculpture to create characters into toys and stop motion animation movies. The rusted, used and tattered look of his pieces are one of a kind which are pieced together with sculpted clay, scrap metal and found objects. Each fabricated piece from Brad Isdrab shows his eye for detail, creativity and uniqueness.

-Q & A-

Childhood Influences: Toys and comic books; I grew up, my mind totally influenced and programmed by things like the Dark Crystal, Transformers, Robotech, and Gijoe, to this day these things still influence my thoughts. I started building models when I was around seven, which developed into a
horrible addiction, and I still have a massive collection of models from Warhammer40k. But it wasn't until recently that I thought of this in any sort of sculptural way.

Current Influences: Visually and artistically there are too many to list, (glances at bookshelf) Dave Mckean, The Brothers Quay, Jan Svankmajer, Barron Storey, Joel
Peter Witkin, Oursler, Giger, Trevor Brown, Peter Chung, Ralph Steadman...Stylistically, I have come to admire Yasushi Nirisawa. The attention to detail in his character models astounds me, to think that came from a human hand...My personal idol is Eva Hesse, pioneered the artistic use of
[toxic]resin and other new materials long before the common usage of respirators.

Favorite thing that tastes like chicken: Polyurethane and sonite wax...

Current Creative Occupations: I am always interested in learning, growing, although this seems less current, and more permanent. How do I occupy my time? Sculpting is and will be my primary occupation, although I will always continue to find more ways to create my worlds. Film production seems to be one of the best ways to create the sense of world I am interested in for my work. Not the hollywood film but the moving picture, the single lasting moment.

Current Projects: I am printing "Annex" the comic book, which will be released at APE, which basically establishes the setting for several other projects. One of these is a video game I am designing and programming, also bearing the title "annex", it expands upon some of my character models, also related my toy prototypes are done and awaiting assembly, Currently there are three stop motion films I am working on, "Mills" which is in post production, an as of yet untitled film involving a bunny and a house that walks on chicken feet, that I am producing with Chupa
(www.crisistheater.com). Lastly is my pet project, "Bianca" which is still in the design/ preproduction stages. There will be updates on my webpage(www.unethicalproductions.com) as each of these grows closer to completion.

Current and Upcoming Shows or Events: A window display at Anubis Warpus on Haight Street San Francisco is up along with the toys of Lucien Shapiro. Another window Display with Lucien Shapiro at Phantom Galleries in San Jose will be up pretty soon.

Mediums: Stopmotion film, resin, clay, electronics, plastics, and anything else I can get my dirty little hands on...

Specialize in: The use of programs to generate morph frames for animation, a process that totally changes the look and feel of the animation, a blur and an echo.

Dream Career which makes you hate your current job: As long as I am doing the things I love I will do them well, and someone will want to pay me for them...

Print Publications: My comic book, "Annex" is out now.
